Sweden’s Self-Employed Residence Permits
In order to welcome foreign investors, Sweden has enacted investment-based immigration
programs designed to encourage skillful businesspeople and entrepreneurs to relocate to the
country. Sweden’s Self-Employed Residence Permits Foreign nationals who are seeking to
establish businesses in Sweden may qualify for the country’s Self-Employed Residence Permit
(SERP).
In order to qualify, foreign nationals must prove:
- That they possess significant experience in their field of expertise and past experience in running their own businesses
- Additionally, they must also have demonstrable proficiency in the Swedish or English language
- Prove that they will be running the business in Sweden and will own at least half of the commercial enterprise
- Show how the commercial enterprise’s goods or services will be sold in Sweden, and possess sufficient money to support themselves and their families during the first two years of their stay in Sweden
- Finally, they must also show that after the initial two-year period, the commercial enterprise will support them and their families

Requirements
- To provide a statement of your expected profits within two years, sufficient for you and your family expenses
- Proof that you have an amount of SEK 200,000 to support you and your family.
- You must be fluent in Swedish or English. Your passport must be valid for at least two full years
- You must have experience certificates in the field you wish to invest
The duration of your application is 8 to 11 months to accept or reject your application as an
investor in Sweden.
Valid passport: copies of the pages in your passport which show your personal information, photograph, signature, passport number, passport issuing country, the period of the passport’s validity, entry and exit stamps and whether you have permission to live in countries other than your country of origin.

- Certificate of registration for companies you own or have own outside of Sweden

Business Option
Buying a Business:
- Show that you have significant experience in your field and previous experience of running your own business
- Contract of sale if you have bought or intend to buy the business or enterprise
- Partnership agreement or stock register
- Bank document which shows that you have paid the purchase sum or your part of the purchase sum, if you have bought the business or enterprise
- Contracts with customers/suppliers and for premises
- Annual accounts/reports for the previous 2 years (if the business has been in operation earlier)
- Balance sheet and income statement (report) for the current financial year, up to and including the previous month
- Show that you are running the business, that you have the ultimate responsibility for it and that you own at least half of the business
Establishing your own Business:
- Comprehensive business plan
- Proof of business contracts
- Proof of Business registration certificates
- Any proof that you have worked on putting up a business
- Show that you have sufficient funds to support you and, if applicable, your family during the first two years equivalent to:
- SEK 200,000 for you,
- SEK 100,000 for your spouse and
- SEK 50,000 for each accompanying child
- Bank statements which show, if applicable, that you have sufficient funds to buy the business and to cover the estimated costs and investments necessary to run the business
- Show reliable source documentation for your budget
- Show that your company, following a 2-year probationary period, will have its finances in balance and you have the ability to support yourself and, if applicable, your family (income support is calculated according to the Swedish national standard for Income support plus housing costs)
- Show that the business’ services or goods are sold and/or produced in Sweden
- Show that you have established customer contacts and/or a network in Sweden
