Aside from providing quality education, Norwegian universities and university colleges are an excellent destination for international students on exchange and degree-seeking programs. Norwegian studies will benefit both your career opportunities at home and overseas.
Nevertheless, you are likely to be surprised by the casual environment on campus. A teacher can be easily approached, classes tend to take place in small groups, and students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills. This is the best way to prepare you for the future.
Each institution handles applications and admissions to higher education in Norway, and each institution may have distinct standards and deadlines.
Make sure you have all of the information you need about the prerequisites, documentation, and deadlines for the various study programs and schools. The minimum prerequisites for entrance to higher education in Norway are shown below.
The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education has established a general fundamental criteria for admittance to Norwegian universities and university colleges, which is equal to passing the ex-am at the conclusion of Norwegian secondary school (NOKUT). For students from some countries at least one year of completed studies at the university level is required in addition.
Special entry requirements apply to some study programs, which are frequently tied to specialised topics or fields of study from secondary school. For more information about these unique qualifications, please contact the institution.
Applicants for Masters programs must have completed a three-year undergraduate or bachelor's degree or its equivalent. The degree must comprise courses equivalent to at least one and a half years of full-time study in a subject related to the program being applied for.
Please note that the first (and possibly second) year of study at a foreign higher education institution will not be recognized as higher education in Norway in some countries (see above)
All applicants should expect to document their language skills in accordance with the institution's standards for courses where the language of instruction is English. Be aware that prerequisites can fluctuate from one university to the next, and even from one study program to the next, and that different universities may require different English tests and scores.
Proficiency in the Norwegian language is necessary and should be documented for courses where the language of instruction is Norwegian.
